Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) unveiled its inaugural fast electric vehicle (EV) charging station in Tamil Nadu, marking the first step towards its goal of establishing 100 similar facilities across the state. The newly inaugurated station, located at Spencer Plaza, boasts a 180 kW DC fast charging capacity and is equipped with 150 kW and 30 kW connectors. Designed to accommodate compatible four-wheelers regardless of brand or model, this initiative signals HMIL's commitment to advancing EV infrastructure.

"As we celebrate 28 years of HMIL in India, we are delighted to inaugurate our first ever 180 kW fast public charging station in Chennai. In line with Hyundai's vision of 'Progress for Humanity', we aim to enhance convenience of all EV users, and hence our charging stations can be utilised by any four-wheeler EV user. HMIL envisages installing 100 charging stations across Tamil Nadu to enhance the EV ecosystem and motivate more customers towards EV adoption across the state", Jae Wan Ryu, Executive Director - Corporate Planning, HMIL, was quoted as saying in the release.

Electric vehicle (EV) owners now have seamless access to HMIL's charging facility through the Charger Management System integrated into the myHyundai App. This feature enables users to easily locate the charging stations, navigate to them, and even pre-book charging slots. Additionally, the system allows for convenient digital payments and remote monitoring of charging status, enhancing the overall EV charging experience for Hyundai customers.

Apart from the newly inaugurated fast public charging station, over 170 charging points spread across Tamil Nadu are now conveniently mapped within the "EV Charge" section of the myHyundai app. This feature aims to enhance customer convenience by providing easy access to charging infrastructure. Notably, the app is accessible to both Hyundai and non-Hyundai EV users, aligning with the company's commitment to fostering widespread adoption of electric vehicles.
