IIT Delhi Ranks 44th in QS Asia 2025
For the first time in the history of QS Asia University Rankings, IIT Delhi has topped the list and dislodged Indian universities from the top spot in the 2025 rankings.
Continental Rankings: IIT Delhi jumped up to two ranks in the global figures after last year's rankings and has fetched 44. This achievement has placed IIT Delhi on top, followed by IIT Bombay with a slip to 48th from last year's ranking of 36.
Several factors have contributed to the growing popularity of IIT Delhi. These factors include the impact of research and improvement in its academic reputation, as well as an increase in faculty members holding PhDs.
“There’s a lot of emphasis on tech advancement, startups and solving problems that will help society,” said Prof Vivek Buwa, head of IIT-D’s ranking cell and dean of planning.
The rankings also highlighted IIT Delhi's success in research output, with the institution averaging seven publications per faculty member annually. The university also scored highly in academic reputation, particularly for its employment reputation among Asian universities.
IIT Delhi's international collaborations also played a role in its ranking. The university is currently involved in almost 116 research projects with universities globally.
Six Indian universities earned spots in the top 100 of the Asia rankings. However, several experienced a decline in ranking, including IIT Madras (56th), IISc Bangalore (62nd), and IIT Kanpur (67th).
