IIT Madras to Host Sports Tech Startup Conclave in Delhi

IndianIndian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has announced plans to organize a pioneering sports tech startup conclave aimed at bolstering India's sports ecosystem. Scheduled for July 12-13 in Delhi, this two-day event seeks to promote technology adoption among sports goods manufacturers in India and foster indigenous production of specialized sports products and services.

The conclave will debut impactful initiatives aligned with the Indian government's sports development vision, coinciding with the lead-up to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, scheduled to commence on July 26.

Mahesh Panchagnula, Dean (Alumni and Corporate Relations) at IIT Madras, highlighted the nascent nature of the sports tech industry in India and extended a call to startups nationwide to participate actively in the conclave. He emphasized the potential of sports tech startups in elevating Indian athletes onto the global stage.

Under its Center of Excellence in Sports Science and Analytics (CESSA), IIT Madras plans to support ten innovative sports tech startups with a Rs 5 crore investment through IIT Madras Pravartak Technologies, providing incubation support. Over the next five years, the institute aims to incubate at least 200 sports technology startups from India, fostering novel ideas and innovations.

The conclave aims to showcase new products and applications while facilitating networking opportunities among stakeholders. Ramesh Kumar, CEO of CESSA at IIT Madras, underscored the event's role in bringing together public and private sector players to explore collaboration prospects.

IIT Madras CESSA also plans to leverage technology to enhance access to quality sports education for various stakeholders in the sports ecosystem, including PE teachers, coaches, referees, analysts, managers, and players.

Looking forward, the institute aims to build upon its successful digital learning initiatives by establishing a digital university focused on sports industry courses. This initiative aims to provide upskilling opportunities tailored to the needs of diverse players in the sports value chain.
