India And USA In Talks To Waiver Steel and Aluminum Tariffs
Based on three Indian sources who spoke, India is in negotiations with the United States to request a waiver from the steel and aluminum tariffs that former U.S. President Donald Trump imposed in exchange for the withdrawal of some retaliatory duties.
Two Indian government sources and one business source with intimate knowledge of the situation said that negotiators in New Delhi and Washington are expecting to clinch an agreement during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the United States later this month.
Both official sources reported that India has proposed to remove retaliatory duties on some agricultural products, including almonds and walnuts, in exchange for a tariff exemption on steel.

The government source, who wished to remain anonymous, added, "We are discussing, (but) they are not too flexible whether there will be any substantial outcome.
The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, the U.S. Department of Commerce, and the Indian Ministry of Commerce did not respond to requests for comment.
Since they were not licenced to speak to the media, the Indian officials asked that their names not be used.
One of the government sources stated, "PM (Modi) is travelling and by that time, they (the U.S.) want to come up with something good, which looks beneficial for both sides.
According to the second government source, India is open to discussing any more potential trade measures that American officials may put forward.
