India’s First Energy Transition Startup Accelerator Launched

Separator

In a significant move toward fostering innovation in the energy sector, a venture capital (VC) firm has launched the country’s first startup accelerator dedicated to energy transition.

This development comes as NITI Aayog is preparing to introduce a national policy framework for energy transition next month, aligning with the Indian government's ambitious Net Zero goals

The accelerator program will focus on supporting startups working in decarbonisation, long-duration energy storage, power electronics, and other emerging energy solutions.

These sectors are crucial solutions. These sectors are crucial not only for reducing carbon emissions but also for ensuring India’s energy security in the face of growing global demand for sustainable alternatives.

The venture capital firm has partnered with two key players-T-Hub, a prominent startup ecosystem enabler, and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). T-Hub will act as the Innovation Execution Partner providing vital research and development (R&D) support, as well as resources for prototyping, IEEE, as the Knowledge Partner, will contribute academic expertise, skill training, and access to its global university network, ensuring that startups receive the guidance needed to build cutting-edge solutions

This collaboration is designed to address the shortage of energy transition-focused startups in the Indian market.

While India’s startup ecosystem has seen explosive growth in the various sectors, the lack of deep-tech hardware and energy transition ventures has been a critical gap. Given the pressing need to address climate change and secure sustainable energy, the acceletar’s launch is timely.

T-Hub CEO Mahankali Srinivas Rao expressed confidence in the accelerator’s potential, calling it a ‘call to action’ for innovators who are passionate about leading India’s energy transition. He emphasized that the initiative would help bridge the gap between ideation and commercialization, enabling startups to move swiftly from concept to market-ready solutions.

With the support of IEEE and T-Hub, participating startups will have access to a comprehensive ecosystem that fosters innovation, technical expertise, and product development. The accelerator will roll out its first cohort soon, aiming to nurture groundbreaking energy transition solutions that align with India’s goal of achieving Net Zero by 2070.
