India's Imports Of Viscose Reaches Record High
In recent years, India's imports of viscose staple fibre have increased significantly. Last year, imports reached a new high as consumption shifted to viscose after cotton prices reached a record high in April 2022. During the period January-November 2022, India's viscose imports totaled $221.348 million (93.071 million kg). Viscose imports increased by more than 50% in value and volume in the first eleven months of 2022.
The value of India's viscose fibre imports in January-November 2022 was 63% higher than the value of imports in 2021, which was $135.116 million. According to Fibre2Fashion's market insight tool TexPro, the import volume increased by 50% to 62.432 million kg in 2021.
India's imports fell from $103.535 million (48.384 million kg) in 2019 to $86.252 million (46.352 million kg) in 2020. However, they recovered in 2021, reaching $135.116 million (62.432 million kg). Previously, the country imported $94.833 million (41.689 million kg) of viscose in 2018 and $66.253 million (27.725 million kg) in 2017.
During the period January-November 2022, Indonesia was the leading supplier, accounting for 29.57 percent of India's viscose imports. Austria had a 17.17 percent share of the top five suppliers, followed by Hong Kong (15.62 percent), China (10.68 percent), and Singapore (10.02 percent).
