India to Extend Partnership with German Synchrotron Center

Separator

IndiaIndia is poised to extend its collaboration with the prestigious German research center Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (DESY) on advanced synchrotron facilities. These cutting-edge synchrotron facilities enable the measurement of minute objects at the smallest scales, facilitating the examination of the structure, energy states, and functionalities of sophisticated materials.

The Ministry of Science and Technology emphasized that the proposal was discussed during a bilateral steering committee meeting held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR) in Bengaluru from March 12 to 14. This meeting saw the participation of a high-level delegation from DESY.

The deliberations focused on the advancement of ongoing collaborations between Indian scientists and DESY on synchrotron X-ray experiments. Additionally, both parties explored the prospect of joint ventures in PETRA IV and free electron laser experiments, which promise enhanced research infrastructure with greater precision.

PETRA IV, particularly, is expected to revolutionize research capabilities by enabling the measurement of individual objects at an unprecedented scale. It will facilitate the study of advanced materials' structure, energy states, and functions, as well as provide insights into crucial in-situ reactions pertinent to energy and the environment.

The cooperation between India and Germany in this realm aligns with the strategic partnership of the two nations. Notably, they are commemorating the 50th anniversary of their science and technology cooperation this year. This extension of collaboration underscores the commitment of both countries to advancing scientific research and fostering innovation through international partnerships.
