India-Africa Growth Partnership Key to Strengthening Global South: VP Jagdeep Dhankhar
Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar emphasized that the partnership between India and Africa is crucial for advancing global rebalancing and empowering the Global South. Speaking at the 19th CII India-Africa Business Conclave, Dhankhar highlighted that India is Africa’s fourth-largest trading partner, with bilateral trade at $85 billion and investments of $75 billion. He stressed that there is still significant potential for further collaboration in various sectors.
Dhankhar pointed out that India has invested more than $12.37 billion in 206 infrastructure projects across 43 African nations, positively affecting millions of people. He also reaffirmed India’s commitment to Africa through initiatives focused on capacity building, education, and skill development, aligned with the African Union’s objectives, including this year’s theme, 'Educate an African Fit for the 21st Century'.
“India, as the world’s largest democracy and home to one-sixth of humanity, has strengthened its ties with Africa through people-to-people connections, including extending e-Visa facilities to 33 African countries”, Dhankhar noted. He spoke about the long-standing relationship between India and Africa, built on shared historical experiences, common struggles, and aspirations for a just and balanced global order, making their partnership more resilient than ever.
He also highlighted India’s leadership in digital transformation, which has set new benchmarks globally. Dhankhar stressed that India’s expertise in technology offers significant opportunities for collaboration with Africa, especially through projects like 'India Stack', which can drive technological solutions across the continent. Additionally, he noted that India’s space initiatives present valuable opportunities for Africa to progress toward sustainable development goals.
Dhankhar expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming India-Africa Forum Summit IV, which aims to outline a modern framework for future cooperation between the two regions. He emphasized that India’s rapid economic growth in recent years has garnered global recognition and presents considerable benefits for Africa.
“India’s economy is on a strong upward trajectory, and the discussions at this conclave will undoubtedly lead to impactful outcomes for both regions,” Dhankhar concluded, underlining the vital role of the India-Africa growth partnership in shaping a more balanced and peaceful global landscape.
