Based on a joint statement, Indian Oil and Tesla Power USA have formed a strategic alliance to provide automotive batteries at fuel stations across the country.

Tesla Power batteries will initially be available at select Indian Oil fuel stations in the national capital region. Following that, the batteries will be available at fuel stations in other states. Tesla Power USA provides lead-acid as well as lithium batteries.

Customers will benefit from the collaboration, according to Vigyan Kumar, executive director at Indian Oil. The company operates 36,000 petrol pumps throughout the country.

"In India, Tesla Power currently has over 5000 distribution points, which we hope to double by 2023." The addition of IOCL petrol pumps could provide Tesla Power USA with a distribution reach of over 40,000, the largest for any battery brand in India, according to Kavinder Khurana, MD of Tesla Power USA.

Indian Oil and its subsidiaries control 47% of the petroleum products market and 40.4% of India's refining capacity.
