Indian Space Companies Witnessing Funding Rain amid Chandrayaan-3 Frenzy
Indian space companies rallied ahead of the lunar touchdown of its Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft on Aug 23, which could give the country's space program a boost.
According to data, the market value of 13 companies that supply equipment ranging from electronics components to metal gears used in rocket communication and navigation has increased by more than $2.5 billion this week.
The Indian Space Research Organization's Chandrayaan-3 rocket succeeded in landing near the moon's south pole on Aug 23 evening, making India the first country to reach the uncharted lunar territory after Russia's similar attempt failed earlier this month.
Linde India, an industrial gas firm, has risen more than 23% this week, leading the gains among spacecraft suppliers. Centum Electronics, which supplied critical modules and systems for the mission, gained nearly 11%, while Avantel, a satellite communication provider with ISRO as a customer, gained more than 12%.
Participating in critical projects such as the moon mission, according to Kranthi Bathini, a strategist with Mumbai-based WealthMills Securities Pvt. Ltd., could open up opportunities for companies in the segment. They can participate in global projects in the future and export their products and services, he says.
