During his address at the Raisina Roundtable hosted by the Observer Research Foundation (ORF) in Tokyo, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar praised the strong bond between India and Japan, underscoring their 'Special Strategic and Global Partnership' focused on tackling global issues. Jaishankar highlighted the changing dynamics of the global landscape, acknowledging the emergence of new power dynamics and occasional milestones.

"The session focuses on how India and Japan, bonded by a special strategic and global partnership, intend to confront the challenges confronting the global order. This subject encompasses various dimensions", said Jaishankar. Considering shifting metrics like GDP, technology, influence, and demography, Jaishankar emphasized the evolution of the global hierarchy in recent decades. He emphasized the importance of adjusting to these changes, which contribute to the volatility defining the present global structure.

Jaishankar emphasized the crucial need to uphold a balance that supports freedom, openness, and adherence to a rules-based order. He highlighted the mutual interest shared by key powers central to the multipolar dynamics in Asia in maintaining these principles. "In our common interest, it is imperative to preserve a balance that promotes freedom, openness, transparency, and adherence to a rules-based order", Jaishankar affirmed. "The world will watch how we will support each other in the shared goal through various relationships and initiatives", the EAM noted.

Jaishankar's current trip to Japan, scheduled from March 6-8, follows his recent visit to South Korea, where he engaged with top leaders. In Japan, he is participating in the 16th India-Japan Foreign Minister's Strategic Dialogue alongside his Japanese counterpart, Yoko Kamikawa. The agenda includes discussions on bilateral, regional, and global matters of significance, with a particular focus on fostering cooperation for an Indo-Pacific region that is free, open, inclusive, peaceful, and prosperous, as stated by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
