jioJio has emerged as the largest operator globally in terms of data traffic. The company also stands as the largest 5G operator outside China, with 130 million subscribers accounting for over 31 percent of Jio’s wireless data traffic.

Jio's total subscriber base has reached an impressive 490 million, including the 130 million 5G users. For the first quarter of FY25, Jio Platforms Limited (JPL) reported a revenue of Rs 34,548 crore, reflecting a 12.8 percent year-on-year increase. The quarterly EBITDA was Rs 14,638 crore, marking an 11.6 percent year-on-year growth.

The growth in revenue from operations was primarily driven by robust subscriber growth across mobility and homes. The notable double-digit EBITDA growth was mainly attributed to healthy revenue growth and operating leverage.

An increase in depreciation was due to higher network utilization and additions to the gross block, while the rise in finance costs was driven by higher leverage.

Jio continues to dominate the industry, gaining subscriber share with 8 million net additions in Q1 FY25. The company reported a monthly churn rate of 1.7 percent and an Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) of Rs 181.7. This ARPU, supported by a better subscriber mix, was partially offset by the increasing mix of promotional 5G traffic offered on an unlimited basis to subscribers without additional charges.

Akash M. Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Jio Infocomm, stated, “Ubiquitous, high-quality, affordable internet is the backbone of Digital India, and Jio takes pride in contributing to this. Our new prepaid plans would foster industry innovation towards 5G and AI, driving sustainable growth. Jio, with its superior network and new service propositions, will further build its market leadership with a customer-first approach”.

Jio's continued innovation and commitment to providing high-quality internet services are set to drive the company's growth and maintain its leadership position in the global telecommunications industry.
