KPJ Healthcare Appoints Prof Emeritus Lokman as Chief Medical Director
KPJ Healthcare Berhad has appointed Prof Emeritus Datuk Dr Lokman Saim as its first-ever Chief Medical Director (CMD), effective immediately. The appointment marks a significant step forward for the group, as Dr Lokman will lead efforts to align clinical operations with the strategic goals of the KPJ Health System. His role will focus on integrating clinical care, education, and research to improve patient outcomes and drive excellence in healthcare delivery.
In a statement, KPJ Healthcare’s President and Managing Director, Chin Keat Chyuan, expressed confidence in Dr Lokman’s capabilities, highlighting his extensive expertise, proven leadership, and longstanding contributions to the organization. “With his deep understanding of our operations and values, Professor Lokman is well-prepared for this important role. His appointment ensures continuity in leadership and strengthens our commitment to high-quality healthcare”, Chin said.
The creation of the CMD position is a strategic move to reinforce KPJ Healthcare’s focus on patient-centric care, clinical governance, and the overall quality of its services. Chin emphasized that this decision further reflects the group's dedication to setting new standards in private healthcare excellence and achieving meaningful advancements in the industry.
Dr Lokman brings more than 40 years of experience in clinical medicine, academic leadership, and medical innovation. A pioneer in otology and neurotology in Malaysia, he introduced cochlear implant surgery to the country and established the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) Cochlear Implant Team. His multidisciplinary approach to hearing healthcare has set new benchmarks, significantly enhancing the quality of life for hearing-impaired patients.
In addition to his clinical achievements, Dr Lokman has made substantial contributions to medical education and workforce development. He has served as the Vice-Chancellor of KPJ Healthcare University (KPJU) since 2012, where he played a key role in aligning education and training programs with the group’s needs. His efforts have helped ensure a continuous pipeline of skilled healthcare professionals in Malaysia.
Dr Lokman’s appointment as CMD will transition his current role as Vice-Chancellor of KPJU to a new appointee, with further details expected to be announced soon. His leadership is set to play a pivotal role in KPJ Healthcare’s ongoing commitment to excellence in healthcare services, education, and research.
