According to reports, Laurus Labs formally opens a research & development (R&D) center in Hyderabad’s Genome Valley that will support the contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) business of the generic drugmaker.

The total investment in setting up the new, 2 lakh sq ft R&D center, equipped with modern laboratories and infrastructure, is Rs.250 crore.

The facility will provide job opportunities to over 800 people, the company said after Industries and IT Minister D. Sridhar Babu inaugurated the center, located in IKP Knowledge Park, in the presence of Laurus Labs founder and CEO Satyanarayana Chava and others.

This state-of-the-art facility is designed to foster innovation and advance the company's mission of developing 'Chemistry for a Better Life'.

“This will be our 5th R&D center and be a testimonial to our commitment to innovation and excellence. We believe that this facility will enable us to develop groundbreaking solutions that will address unmet medical needs,” says Satyanarayana.

According to reports, the minister's office stated that Laurus Labs recently announced a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in partnership with KrKa in Europe. The upcoming manufacturing facility, combined with the new R&D facility, will represent a 225 billion yen investment over the next four years and will create 2,800 jobs.

Laurus stands as a global leader in the supply of anti-retroviral APIs and intermediates, playing a pivotal role in increasing access to affordable medicines worldwide. In addition, they have the development and manufacturing of animal-origin-free recombinant proteins, growth factors, and cell-culture media supplements catering to the needs of Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine.
