Mandating Usage of Green Hydrogen Proposal to be put Forward in Cabinet

RK Singh, Minister of Power and Renewable Energy, said on August 25 that a proposal mandating the use of green hydrogen in certain industries would be sent to the cabinet for approval soon.

Basically, the mandate fixation for green hydrogen consumption is in the works, Singh said at an event. "Most ministries prefer to begin with a smaller mandate." "Obviously, I want a larger mandate," he added.

Discussions with the concerned ministries have taken place so that we can have the mandates in place, he said. The nascent green hydrogen industry in the country has been awaiting clarity on how the government will support domestic demand creation. Mandatory use of the fuel in sectors like fertilisers, steel and oil and gas, among others, is likely to play a crucial role in domestic consumption. Deliberations with various ministries have taken place and we have come across some figures which will go to the Cabinet, he said.

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy's National Green Hydrogen Mission has so far taken care of the supply and manufacturing of green hydrogen and electrolysers, as well as financial incentives.
