MoRD and IIT Delhi Join Forces for Geospatial Tech and AI Applications

InIn a significant move towards advancing technological applications in rural development, the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD) has officially partnered with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi. The collaboration was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on Tuesday, emphasizing the joint exploration of geospatial technology and artificial intelligence (AI) in the context of rural development.

The focal point of this collaboration is the 'BhuPRAHARI' project, an ambitious initiative aimed at utilizing ground and space-based geospatial technologies along with AI to monitor and manage assets under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). The project will be spearheaded by the HydroSense Lab, led by Prof Manabendra Saharia.

The MoU signifies a commitment to harnessing technology for the improvement of rural development processes, with a focus on modernizing project planning, monitoring, and execution. The integration of cutting-edge technologies is expected to enhance accountability and optimize resource allocation in the execution of rural development projects.
