NEEPCO and Arunachal Pradesh Government Sign MoA to Build Hydroelectric Power Projects

Separator

The North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO), an NTPC subsidiary, and the Government of Arunachal Pradesh have signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA). The agreement, which calls for the construction of 2620 MW hydroelectric projects, was formally signed in Itanagar.

India is working to meet its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) target, which includes funding for these hydro projects. The goal is to reach 500 GW of non-fossil energy capacity by 2030. The achievement of this goal is viewed as critical to India's goal of reaching Net Zero carbon emissions by 2070.

Hydro projects can boost regional economic growth in addition to environmental efforts. The projected results include creating job opportunities and fostering technical knowledge and skill development within the neighborhood. The establishment of the MoA will allow NEEPCO and the Government of Arunachal Pradesh to collaborate on creating hydroelectric power projects in the area.
