NPCI Reports Recurring Decline in UPI Transactions

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), which manages the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), announced that several banks were experiencing issues leading to recurring decline in UPI transactions.
The previous financial year ended on March 31, and the new financial year (FY26) began on April 1.
The NPCI recommended that users encountering issues contact their respective banks for improved assistance.
On X NPCI posted that, “UPI system is working fine, and we are working with the concerned banks for necessary redressal.”
Due to the financial year-end closure, banks in India encountered challenges in processing transactions, resulting in intermittent declines on Tuesday.
This marks the second instance in a week where users faced disruptions in processing UPI transactions.
On the evening of March 26, 2025, UPI experienced a significant outage, rendering thousands of users unable to finalize payments or transfer funds.
The number of complaints surged, with more than 23,000 recorded after 7 PM.
Digital payment platforms, including Google Pay and PhonePe, were impacted. Reports indicated that complaints exceeded 23,000 after 7:00 PM on March 26, with many users expressing their frustration on social media regarding uncompleted transactions.
Given the crucial role of UPI in India’s digital payments landscape, experts emphasize the necessity for improved backup systems to ensure service continuity during outages.
