NTPC, IOC Pact for Bongaigaon Plant Disaster Response in Assam

NTPCNTPC, a government-owned power company, has partnered with Indian Oil Corporation's Bongaigaon unit to manage industrial emergencies and respond to natural disasters. In an official announcement, NTPC disclosed that its Bongaigaon plant and IOC's Bongaigaon Refinery have established a Mutual Aid Agreement (MAA) for an Emergency Response Plan (ERP). The collaboration aims to enhance preparedness and response capabilities for emergencies between the two entities.

According to NTPC, the Bongaigaon plant and IOC's Bongaigaon Refinery have formalized a Mutual Aid Agreement (MAA) for an Emergency Response Plan (ERP), aimed at strengthening emergency preparedness and response capabilities between the two organizations.

The comprehensive agreement, constituting the mutual aid initiative, aims to foster collaboration and resource sharing for effective management of industrial emergencies and natural disasters, minimizing their impact. By combining resources and expertise, the two units intend to ensure swift and coordinated responses during crises, minimizing potential damages, as stated by NTPC.

Regarding the partnership, Karunakar Das, Head of NTPC Bongaigaon Business Unit, emphasized its commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of employees, stakeholders, and the surrounding areas. Nayan Kumar Barua, Executive Director of IOC and Head of Bongaigaon Refinery, highlighted the agreement's key objectives, including establishing mutual aid assistance for industrial emergency situations and providing timely and organized assistance beyond individual organizations' capacities.

Under the terms of the agreement, both energy companies pledge to offer personnel, equipment, facilities, and services to aid each other during emergencies. Additionally, they commit to raising awareness among members and the public about disaster threats and mitigation strategies. The agreement also focuses on promoting loss-control procedures related to hazards associated with member industries. The Mutual Aid Agreement is set to be effective for five years, with provisions for renewal and periodic review.
