optieOptiemus Electronics, a homegrown electronics manufacturer, announced its entry into telecom equipment manufacturing in collaboration with Tejas Networks, a Tata Group company, as its manufacturing partner. The partnership aligns with the Indian government’s focus on promoting indigenous design and manufacturing of telecom equipment.

Optiemus will manufacture a range of telecom products, including 4G baseband units, remote radio heads, ONTs, ONUs, broadband switches, and routers at its Noida facility. Commenting on the development, A Gururaj, Managing Director of Optiemus Electronics, said, “It is a significant milestone as we expand our manufacturing capabilities into the rapidly growing telecom equipment sector”.

India’s government has emphasized the importance of domestically produced telecom equipment, which is now being exported to over 100 countries. In 2023, India exported telecom equipment and services worth over $18.2 billion, with several Indian companies gaining recognition in Western markets like the US.

Tejas Networks, a key player in the Indian telecom industry, has emerged as a reliable partner over the past decade. V Sembian, Chief Supply Chain Officer of Tejas Networks, noted, “Adding Optiemus as one of our manufacturing partners is a step forward in supporting Atmanirbhar Bharat and boosting domestic telecom product manufacturing”.

Optiemus operates two manufacturing units in Noida, while Tejas Networks designs and produces high-performance wireline and wireless networking products for service providers, government entities, and defense sectors in over 75 countries.

The Indian government recently reported that telecom equipment manufacturing sales have exceeded Rs 50,000 crore under the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme, creating over 17,800 direct jobs and many more indirectly. Of the total production, exports accounted for Rs 10,500 crore, reflecting the success of India’s initiatives to become a global telecom manufacturing hub.
