PrimePrime Minister Narendra Modi met with leading figures from the technology and biosciences sectors in New York, following his address to the Indian diaspora where he outlined his vision of transforming India into a global technology powerhouse. The meeting, which included 15 CEOs from the fields of chip design, IT, and biosciences, highlighted India’s growing potential in these industries.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi expressed his optimism after the roundtable discussions, stating he was “glad to see immense optimism towards India”. He also reiterated his administration’s commitment to positioning India as a global hub for semiconductor manufacturing and a biotech leader. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said the discussions covered artificial intelligence, quantum computing, biotechnology, IT, and semiconductor technologies.

"India’s policy is to promote AI for All, underpinned by its ethical and responsible use," the Prime Minister emphasized during the discussions, adding that the country is committed to ensuring these technologies benefit people globally.

During the meeting, PM Modi also assured the CEOs of India’s "deep commitment" to protecting intellectual property rights, a crucial aspect for fostering innovation and attracting global investments.

The tech roundtable included high-profile CEOs such as Jensen Huang of Nvidia, Lisa Su of AMD, Tim Archer of Lam Research, Thomas Caulfield of Global Foundries, and Arvind Krishna of IBM. IT leaders Sundar Pichai of Google, Shantanu Narayen of Adobe, Enrique Lores of HP, and Hans Vestberg of Verizon also attended the discussions.

The biotech sector was represented by Noubar Afeyan, chairman of Moderna, Chris Viehbacher of Biogen, David Ricks of Eli Lilly, and Chris Boerner of Bristol Myers Squibb. These leaders expressed strong interest in investing and collaborating with India, recognizing its emergence as a global technology hub driven by innovation-friendly policies and market opportunities.

The MEA’s press release revealed that the CEOs were particularly interested in India’s efforts to promote collaboration and innovation in cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence and quantum computing. They discussed how these advancements are contributing to global well-being, including in India, which has seen rapid technological growth in recent years.

PM Modi separately met with Kris Singh, CEO of Holtec International, a company that specializes in small nuclear reactors. They discussed expanding Holtec’s manufacturing footprint in India and enhancing cooperation in the field of civil nuclear energy.

In his remarks, PM Modi noted that during his third term, India would strive to become the world’s third-largest economy. He urged the CEOs to take advantage of India’s growth by co-developing, co-designing, and co-producing in India for the global market, leveraging the country’s expanding technological and economic landscape.

The visit follows PM Modi’s continued efforts to enhance India's global presence in technology and biosciences, particularly in semiconductors, AI, and biotech, as the country positions itself as a key player in the global tech ecosystem.
