Potential Growth in India-Suriname Bilateral Trade: President Murmu
President Droupadi Murmu expressed optimism about the considerable potential for bilateral trade and economic collaboration between India and Suriname. During a meeting with a parliamentary delegation from Suriname at Rashtrapati Bhavan, she highlighted specific areas of opportunity such as health, ayurveda, digital technologies, education, and tourism. President Murmu emphasized the warm and friendly nature of India-Suriname relations, rooted in strong people-to-people connections, cultural ties, and shared perspectives on global issues.
President Droupadi Murmu highlighted the significant potential for bilateral trade and economic collaboration between India and Suriname, spanning various sectors such as health, ayurveda, agriculture, renewable energy, digital technologies, education, culture and tourism, as stated by Rashtrapati Bhavan. Stressing the importance of parliamentary exchanges, she emphasized that they provide a valuable platform for interaction between the two democracies.
President Murmu expressed her belief that the delegation's visit would offer insights into India's robust democratic systems. Led by Marinus Bee, the Chairman of the National Assembly of Suriname, the delegation's visit holds particular significance in 2023, following high-level exchanges between the two nations, including President Chandrikapersad Santokhi's visit to India in January and President Murmu's state visit to Suriname in June. The president fondly recalled her participation in the special commemoration of the 150th anniversary of Indians' arrival in Suriname, highlighting the warm reception extended by the government and people of Suriname during her visit.
