Jio Platform, a company owned by Reliance Industries, announced in a statement that it had successfully acquired US communications equipment manufacturer Mimosa Networks for $60 million through its wholly owned subsidiary Radisys Corporation.

RIL had stated when the deal was announced in March of this year that Jio Platforms, which also houses RIL's telecom business in Reliance Jio, would be able to strengthen its 5G and broadband services using Mimosa's point-to-point and point-to-multi-point products.

"Mimosa brings a diverse portfolio of point-to-point and point-to-multi-point connectivity products leveraging unlicensed spectrum bands," RIL said in a statement late on August 11.

According to RIL, Mimosa's products should make it possible to quickly deploy fixed wireless access (FWA) networks that can handle multiple gigabits of data per second as well as wireless backhaul connectivity for telecommunications systems.

Products based on WiFi 5 and the more recent WiFi 6E technologies are included in Mimosa's portfolio, along with related accessories like twist-on antennas.

The backhaul requirements for 5G and FTTX/FWA rollouts have use cases for these solutions, and Jio has been a significant customer of Mimosa, the company has said.
