Renault India, a subsidiary of French based Groupe Renault announced opening of 14 new dealerships and three workshops across India, as part of the company’s plans to expand its footprint in smaller cities and rural markets to boost sales in the coming years. The new facilities are located in Himachal Pradesh (four facilities), Telangana (three facilities), Rajasthan (two facilities), Uttar Pradesh (two facilities), Delhi, Punjab, Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra. With this expansion, Renault now has a network more than 390 sales and 470 service touch points.

In 2019, with the launch of its new offering – Triber sport utility vehicle, Renault had introduced the strategy to expand its reach in rural and semi-urban markets to boost sales of its mass-market products. Renault’s Kwid is the most popular entry level car after Maruti Suzuki’s Alto with regards to volume.

Venkatram Mamillapalle, Chief Executive & Managing Director, Renault India, revealed that even though the company is cautious given the current situation, it is encouraging to see that it has managed to attract new dealers as well as secure more investments and expansion requests by existing partners. “This is enabling us to expand our presence to cater to more customers in metro cities as well as emerging tier II-IV cities across the country. India is an important market for Renault’s global growth plans and we have a thorough business strategy for this dynamic automotive market,” aseerts Mamillapalle.

Renault India Pvt Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of Renault S.A., France and currently offers five models in the Indian market: the SUV Duster, the compact MPV Lodgy and Triber, budget car Kwid and the latest crossover Captur. Renault India also exports the Duster to a growing number of right-hand drive markets. The company’s cars are manufactured at the manufacturing facility located in Oragadam, Chennai, with a capacity of 480,000 units pa with three shifts per day.

In 2005, Renault marked its presence in India. From then to now, Renault India has achieved many milestones. With the launch of the Renault KWID, Renault India registered a growth of 160% in domestic sales in December 2015. In March 2016, Renault India launched the new Renault DUSTER which continues to further its market share. In November 2017, Renault India redefined India’s style statement with the launch of the Renault CAPTUR. In August 2019, Renault India offered ‘Space for Everything’ in a car with the launch of the super spacious, ultra modular Renault TRIBER.

In July 2020, Renault reported a 75 percent jump in its wholesales to 6,422 units as demand for its Kwid (hatchback) and Triber (sport utility vehicle) started showing signs of recovery after the gradual easing of the lockdown measures.
