French carmaker Renault inaugurated its new Renault Design Centre Chennai (RDCC), marking a major step in the company's 'design in India' vision. The facility is set to play a key role in Renault's efforts to boost local design and innovation

Renault CEO and Managing Director Venkatram Mamillapalle stated that the company aims to launch five new models within the next two years, all designed and produced in India with an emphasis on localization.

The new design centre will act as a center of excellence, partly due to its closeness to the Renault Nissan Technology and Business Centre India in Mahindra World City, approximately 55km south of Chennai.

Covering 1,500 square metres, the Renault Design Centre Chennai boasts state-of-the-art technologies, fostering a contemporary atmosphere designed for innovation and creativity. It additionally includes an engaging exhibition area, a cutting-edge visualization studio, a high-performance LED screen for striking, crystal-clear displays, and Advanced Virtual Reality Integration, among other features.

This is Renault's fifth design center worldwide, showcasing the company's increasing commitment to India. The Renault group has nearly 10,000 engineers worldwide, a significant number of whom work on local projects and international initiatives. Renault has been procuring auto parts produced in India for vehicles made globally. This comprehensive initiative highlights the company's emphasis on the expanding market in India.

Inaugurating the event, the company introduced its 'renault. rethink' transformation strategy in India, aligning with its vision for the International Gameplan 2027.

A cutting-edge sculpture, highlighting Renault's future design in India, was likewise revealed by Laurens van den Acker, Chief Design Officer of Renault Group, and Venkatram Mamillapalle.
