For the fiscal year 2022–2023, state-owned SAIL produced a record 18.28 million tonnes (MT) of crude steel, an increase of 5.3% over the previous year. The output of hot metal also increased during the fiscal year that concluded on March 31 by 3.6%, reaching 19.40 MT.

The Steel Authority of India (SAIL) announced in a statement that FY23 saw its best-ever yearly production.

"The company recorded 19.409 MT hot metal and 18.289 MT crude steel production with a growth of 3.6 per cent and 5.3 per cent, respectively over the previous best in FY22," the statement added.

The steel company noted that it has been steadily increasing production over the years with an emphasis on producing more value-added and unique steel.

The Ministry of Steel's SAIL, which has an installed capacity of about 20 MT per year, is the nation's biggest manufacturer of steel. It has three special steel mills and five integrated steel plants throughout the nation.

One of India's main steel producers and a Maharatna of the Central Public Sector Companies is Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL).

Five integrated facilities and three specific steel plants operated by SAIL, primarily in India's eastern and central regions and near to domestic raw material sources, produce iron and steel. SAIL produces and sells a variety of steel goods.
