SEMI and IESA Join Forces to Boost India's Semiconductor Role
SEMI, the global industry association, has announced a strategic partnership with the India Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA) to strengthen India’s presence in the global semiconductor value chain. The agreement, revealed during the ‘Semicon India 2024’ event, allows IESA to represent SEMI in India while retaining its brand identity and incorporating SEMI’s processes and initiatives.
Ajit Manocha, President and CEO of SEMI, emphasized India’s vast potential in the semiconductor industry, noting that many global companies are exploring opportunities in the country. "This partnership will enhance supply chain resilience and open up new growth avenues for SEMI members in India’s expanding semiconductor market", he said.
The collaboration aims to position India as a global semiconductor powerhouse, driving economic growth and innovation. IESA Chairperson Dr. Veerappan and President Ashok Chandak highlighted the partnership’s strategic significance, calling it a major win for both organizations.
Additionally, the agreement will promote joint policy advocacy, with IESA and SEMI working closely with government bodies to push incentives for product development and manufacturing through initiatives like the production-linked incentive (PLI) and design-linked incentive (DLI) schemes.
The three-day ‘Semicon India 2024’ event, co-organized by SEMI and Messe Munchen India, features over 600 exhibitors and more than 100 global companies, underlining India’s growing importance in the global semiconductor landscape.
