SITA Installs Smart Path at Nine Airports

Separator

SITA, a global leader in air transport technology, is set to revolutionize Indian airports through its Smart Path technology. In partnership with the Airports Authority of India (AAI), SITA will implement contactless biometric solutions at nine Indian airports as part of the DigiYatra initiative.

This collaboration aims to create a seamless, paperless travel experience while boosting airport efficiency.

The nine airports included in the deployment are Visakhapatnam, Ranchi, Bhubaneswar, Indore, Raipur, Bagdogra, Patna, Goa (Dabolim), and Coimbator SITA’s Smart Path , Passenger Flow Management (PFM), and Face Pods technology will be integrated into these airports, enabling biometric verification at most touch points.

This will reduce wait times, enhance passenger control over their journey and streamline airport operations.

Digiyatra, a projects initiated by the Ministry of Civil Aviation, aims to revolutionize Indian air travel by offering passengers a contactless, paperless airport experience through advanced facial recognition technology. The initiative aligns with India’s broader push for digitalization, marking a major shift in how passengers move through airports.

During the inauguration of Digiyatra at Visakhapatnam Airport, key dignitaries such as the Hon’ble Union Minister of Civil Aviation, Shri Rammohan Naidu, and Hon’ble Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Shri Murlidhar mohol, were present, emphasizing the importance of this technological transformation or India aviation.

In 2023, over 20 million travelers benefited from DigiYatra and the initiatives aims to cover 28 airports, potentially serving 90% of India’s domestic flying population. The DigiYatra Foundation also plans to align with IATA’s One ID initiative for global interoperability, enhancing the travel experience even further.

The partnership with AAI is part of a larger deal SITA signed in July 2023 to upgrade 43 of India’s largest airports. This extensive collaboration will enhance over 2,700 passenger touch points, making it one of the biggest deployments of passenger processing technology globally.

SITA’s ongoing support of the “Make in India” initiative also strengthens its commitment to India’s aviation growth and digital transformation.
