Smriti Irani, a BJP leader, stated that there is a great need for data centers in India and advised real estate developers to diversify their operations.
Speaking at a CREDAI-hosted conference here, she stated that there is a significant need for data centers in India and that, over the next four to five years, an area of about 18 million square feet will be needed for data centers.
The former Union Minister Irani also discussed the increasing number of Global Capabilities Centers (GCCs) in India and other major cities.
She invited builders to share their best practices with urban local bodies about sustainable development and construction technology, acknowledging the role of the Indian real estate industry in economic growth.
The BJP leader was answering a question concerning how the government views the real estate industry.
In addition to constructing tall skyscrapers and gated communities for residents in both established and developing cities, Irani stated that real estate also entails developing the capacity for future data centers and drawing in more GCC nations.
She stated that there are currently 1,600 GCC countries in India, and that between 1.6 and 2 million people are employed there.
The number of GCCs is growing, she noted, and a power grid must be added to the data centers.
Irani stated that during the next four to five years, data centers in India will require an area of at least 18 million square feet.
