Snapdeal and Bhashini Partner for Digital Inclusion in India

InIn a move aimed at boosting digital inclusion in India, leading e-commerce platform Snapdeal has partnered with Digital India Bhashini, an Independent Business Division under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) within Digital India Corporation (DIC). The collaboration, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), is set to focus on developing services and products geared towards enhancing language translation efforts, with a particular emphasis on promoting digital accessibility across the nation.

Leveraging the power of Artificial Intelligence (AI), the partnership aims to pioneer innovative solutions catering to over nine vernacular languages, effectively breaking down linguistic barriers to digital adoption.

Himanshu Chakrawarti, CEO of Snapdeal, expressed optimism about the collaboration, highlighting the synergies between Bhashini's expertise in language solutions and Snapdeal's robust e-commerce platform. The initiative underscores Snapdeal's unwavering commitment to driving digital inclusivity in India.

Amitabh Nag, CEO of Bhashini, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the transformative potential of AI and voice-first technology in fostering greater digital participation. He affirmed Bhashini's dedication to leveraging technology for the collective benefit and creating a more connected and inclusive digital ecosystem for all Indians.

Meanwhile, Snapdeal reported significant strides in its financial performance, with a revenue of Rs 388 crore in FY23. Notably, the company also achieved a substantial reduction in losses, which decreased by 45% to Rs 282 crore in the last financial year compared to Rs 510 crore in FY22.

The partnership between Snapdeal and Digital India Bhashini underscores a shared commitment to harnessing technology-driven solutions for advancing digital inclusion and fostering a more connected and accessible digital landscape for all Indians.
