TheThe data center market of South India is likely to witness a steep growth of 65 percent by the year 2030, with Chennai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad leading from the front. Government incentives, discretionary spending in strategic infrastructure, and increased demand for digital services are fuelling this rapid growth, a report launched by Colliers India said.

Combined, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad currently have nearly 200 MW of installed data center capacity. However, it is going to rise drastically, as almost 190 MW is under construction, and another 170 MW is in the planning stage. The total capacity will thus grow by 80 percent in a few years, underscoring how important this region is for the world's digital framework.

Against the backdrop of sustained government support and ongoing infrastructure improvements, Swappnil Anil, executive director and head of advisory services, Colliers India, reflects on the potential of this region as a global data center hub.

Chennai leads with an installed capacity of 87 MW, then comes 156 MW currently under construction, and 104 MW planned. Bengaluru, known for its strong IT ecosystem, has 79 MW installed at the moment, with 10 MW under construction and 26 MW planned. Hyderabad, fast catching up in and around as a data center hotspot, currently has an installed capacity of 47 MW, with 20 MW under construction and 38 MW planned.

It has also highlighted the competitive monthly recurring charges for data centres in South India, ranging between Rs 6,650 and Rs 8,500 per kW per month, based on usage, and bringing unparalleled value to businesses that invest in digital infrastructure.

The overall conclusion, based on the fact that all odds are placed in its favor with supportive economic conditions, governmental support, and strategic investments in its infrastructure, sets South India well on course to cement its place as one of the top data center markets globally by 2030.
