Sterlite Power Commissions Gujarat's Largest Green Energy Corridor
On Monday, Sterlite Power announced the successful completion of its largest green energy corridor in Gujarat, the Lakadia-Vadodara Transmission Project. The project aims to deliver more than 5,000 MW of power to the national grid from the renewable-rich regions of Bhuj and Kutch, accelerating India's transition to a greener economy, according to a statement.
Sterlite Power, a leading power transmission company in India and Brazil, has announced the completion of its green energy corridor project - Lakadia-Vadodara Transmission Project Ltd (LVTPL), according to the company.
This inter-state transmission project, which cost Rs 2,024 crore, connects the 765/400 kV substation in Lakadia to Vadodara via a 335-kilometer-long 765 kV double-circuit transmission line.
This transmission corridor, which spans seven districts in Gujarat, is also one of the largest in India, according to the company.
Furthermore, it is a critical component of the world's largest 30,000 MW hybrid renewable energy park, which is set to open in Kutch.
According to Pratik Agarwal, Managing Director of Sterlite Power, "It gives us great pleasure to announce the completion of the massive LVTPL project. It has been a difficult journey, but we have succeeded in unlocking 5,000 MW of green power for the country, accelerating India's RE vision of 500 GW by 2030."
The company was awarded the project in 2019, and work began in 2020, during Covid-19. The company used innovative construction techniques such as pocket foundations, well point systems, and unique tower designs to build long-lasting power infrastructure that could withstand the region's complex terrain challenges.
Throughout the project execution phase, the company collaborated with various communities to ensure an inclusive approach to development. It also stated that it employed thousands of skilled and unskilled workers during the construction phase.
During the Covid-19-imposed national lockdown, it also made concerted efforts to provide essential health items to vulnerable communities surrounding project sites, it added.
