LeadingLeading online food delivery platform Swiggy has announced the launch of 'Swiggy UPI', a new feature that integrates the National Payments Corporation of India’s (NPCI) Unified Payments Interface (UPI) directly into the Swiggy app, offering users a faster and more seamless payment experience.

With this new feature, customers can now complete UPI transactions without leaving the Swiggy app, reducing the payment process from five steps to just one. Swiggy's integration aims to streamline the user experience by cutting transaction time from over 15 seconds to just 5 seconds, according to a statement from the company.

“This feature aligns with Swiggy’s mission to enable unparalleled convenience to consumers as UPI emerges as one of the most preferred payment methods,” said Anurag Panganamamula, Head of Revenue and Growth at Swiggy.

Powered by Juspay's HyperUPI Plugin, the new feature eliminates the need for redirection to third-party UPI apps, making the payment process quicker and more user-friendly. Customers can set up their UPI account by linking their bank accounts within the app’s payment page. After this one-time setup, users will only need to enter their UPI PIN for subsequent transactions, ensuring a swift and secure payment process.

“Moreover, the in-house plug-in experience will immediately inform customers of any issues such as insufficient funds, incorrect credentials, or technical problems, allowing them to take informed actions and complete their payments successfully,” Swiggy added.

The launch of Swiggy UPI comes at a time when UPI-based transactions are seeing significant growth in India. In July alone, UPI transactions surged to Rs 20.64 lakh crore, up from Rs 20.07 lakh crore in June, with the total transaction count increasing nearly 4 percent month-on-month to 14.44 billion.

As UPI continues to gain popularity, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) is encouraging more entities to integrate UPI services, further enhancing the digital payments ecosystem in the country.

Swiggy's latest move underscores its commitment to offering customers faster, more efficient payment solutions, reinforcing UPI's position as a preferred payment method for millions of users across India.
