Tata Group To Be Apple's New Contract Manufacturer

Separator

Apple may have a new contract manufacturing in India. According to media sources, the Tata Group has started producing Apple's iPhone in India. A fresh rumour claims that the Indian conglomerate builds iPhones at Wistron's plant in South India. The new update arrives just days after Apple CEO Tim Cook met Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran on his April visit to India to celebrate the opening of Apple Stores in Mumbai and Delhi.

The Tata Group, according to reports, builds iPhones at Wistron's facility outside of Bengaluru. According to the report, as part of its acquisition of Wistron's Narasapura factory in Karnataka's Kolar district, Tata Group is building iPhones there.

Neither Tata nor Apple have publicly acknowledged any specifics about the former beginning manufacturing operations and producing the iPhone in India. If the details are correct, Tata would be Apple's fourth manufacturer in India, following Foxconn, Pegatron, and Luxshare.

The Tata group is apparently taking over Wistron's activities in India as the Taiwan-based company exits the market. According to the Times of India, it is yet unclear whether Wistron will completely abandon the Bengaluru business. According to the report, which cites its top sources, the contract manufacturer has "firmly decided to fully exit the Apple operations in order to focus on other businesses." According to the sources, Wistron will continue to explore for commercial prospects in non apple products.
