Tata Motors partners with LeadIT for net-zero transition

TataTata Motors, a global automotive industry leader, has joined the Leadership Group for Industry Transition (LeadIT), a global alliance launched by the governments of Sweden and India at the UN Climate Action Summit in September 2019. As a LeadIT member, Tata Motors aims to leverage global best practices, influence policy-making, and collaborate with other members to enhance its climate action plans, accelerating its shift towards achieving net-zero emissions.

Tata Motors views this collaboration not only as a means to expedite its own transition but also as an opportunity to drive industry-wide change. By working alongside other pioneering companies within LeadIT, Tata Motors envisions creating a dynamic ecosystem of shared insights and collective advancement to champion a sustainable future for all.

Tata Motors has been actively embracing sustainability as a business transformation, showcasing significant progress in zero-emission products, renewable energy, circular economy initiatives, water neutrality, and biodiversity conservation. The company has already installed 109 MW of renewable energy capacity and plans to add around 300 MW in the next three years to become a RE100 company. Over the past three years, Tata Motors has reduced its Scope 1+2 emissions intensity by 44% and is leading the electric and zero-emissions vehicle revolution.

The company upholds the principles of the circular economy through TATVA, a framework working across Materials, Energy, Lifetime, and Utilization pathways for a holistic transformation. Tata Motors has established five Re.Wi.Re facilities to extract maximum value with minimal footprint at the end of a vehicle’s lifecycle. The company is dedicated to water stewardship, achieving water-neutral or positive status at three of its plants. Moreover, Tata Motors integrates nature and biodiversity into its business strategy, conserving habitats around its operating sites and undertaking flagship conservation projects with positive impacts beyond its value chain.
