TataTata Power has teamed up with Druk Green Power Corporation Ltd (DGPC) to launch a significant hydropower project in Bhutan. The Khorlochhu Hydropower Project, valued at approximately Rs 6,900 crore, will feature a 600-megawatt capacity and be situated on the Kholongchhu river in eastern Bhutan.

The initiative is designed to help meet Bhutan’s rising electricity demands while contributing to India’s renewable energy goals. Tata Power will contribute 40% of the equity through Khorlochhu Hydro Power Ltd, a Public Private Partnership (PPP) firm.

The project, which is expected to take five years to complete, has all necessary statutory approvals in place for construction to begin. Tata Power's CEO & MD, Praveer Sinha, noted that this project represents a major step toward a sustainable energy future and reaffirms Tata Power’s dedication to environmental responsibility.

DGPC’s MD, Dasho Chhewang Rinzin, highlighted the project’s importance for Bhutan’s energy security and economic development. It supports Bhutan’s ambition to achieve High-Income Gross National Happiness (GNH) Economy status by 2034.

The partnership reflects a shared commitment to advancing renewable energy and strengthening regional energy security.
