Under a collaboration with the British High Commission in India, Tata Steel will fund research and development (R&D) projects in the low carbon hydrogen segment. Tata Steel announced funding for two innovative projects in the low carbon hydrogen segment as part of the 'UK-India Hydrogen Partnership Sprint Series'.

Tata Steel said in a statement that the initiative is open to participants from India and the United Kingdom.

The company expects the grant proposals to address two challenges: first, the development and deployment of hydrogen technologies for greening the industrial sector, and second, solutions for hydrogen storage/purification.

"The steel sector's priority today is to decarbonize in a technologically and economically sustainable manner."

"While the steel sector's current carbon footprint is unsustainable, the available version of clean hydrogen faces numerous challenges such as high operational costs and energy loss," said Tata Steel Vice President, Technology and R&D, Debashish Bhattacharjee.
