Toyota to Establish Rs 20,000 Crore Manufacturing Plant in Maharashtra

ToyotaToyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) announced its plans to set up a new manufacturing plant in Maharashtra with an investment of approximately Rs 20,000 crore. The automaker signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Maharashtra government to explore the establishment of a greenfield manufacturing facility at Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, TKM revealed in a statement.

Headquartered in Karnataka, TKM currently operates two manufacturing units in Bidadi, near Bengaluru. The company, along with its group companies, has invested over Rs 16,000 crore in Karnataka, creating nearly 86,000 jobs across the value chain. Additionally, Toyota's cumulative export contributions from India amount to around Rs 32,000 crore, underscoring the company’s strong export focus.

"Today's MoU signing marks a pivotal point as we stride into the next phase of growth in the country, enabling us to contribute to enriching lives with qualitative mobility solutions locally and globally," said Masakazu Yoshimura, TKM Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer.

The proposed investment in Maharashtra, once finalized, is expected to be made over several years, potentially leading to significant job creation and economic growth in the region. 

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis shared the investment details on social media platform X, stating, "Transforming Maharashtra, Developing Marathwada! Reaffirming its commitment to India; Toyota Kirloskar Motors is set to launch a Green Field Manufacturing Facility in Maharashtra"!

Currently, TKM has an installed production capacity of 3.42 lakh vehicles per year at its Bidadi units. The new facility in Maharashtra is set to enhance this capacity and support the company's expansion plans in India.

This move highlights Toyota’s commitment to bolstering its presence in the Indian market and contributing to the country’s industrial growth through substantial investments and job creation.
