Union Minister Amit Shah Inaugurates 24x7 Manimajra Water Supply Project in Chandigarh
Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the 24x7 Manimajra water supply project. The inauguration was attended by Punjab Governor and Union Territory Chandigarh Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria.
Constructed at a cost of Rs 75 crore, the project aims to benefit over one lakh residents of Manimajra, including those in Modern Housing Complex, Shivalik Enclave, Indira Colony, and Shastri Nagar. This initiative is a significant part of the Smart City mission and focuses on providing a continuous high-pressure water supply, thereby reducing wastage by minimizing storage needs.
Key objectives of the project include water resource augmentation through leakage reduction, implementation of smart metering, limited reliance on groundwater, and energy consumption monitoring. The infrastructure includes 22 kilometers of new water supply pipeline and two underground water reservoirs, each with a capacity of two million gallons per day.
The 24x7 water supply project is expected to substantially improve water availability and management in Manimajra, setting a benchmark for other regions under the Smart City initiative.
