USD Remains Stronger in Equities, While Rupee Settles at 72.52 The Indian rupee ended on a flat note against the US dollar today, despite a firm trend in domestic equity markets and a stronger dollar in overseas markets.

However, the local unit opened lower at Rs.72.57 against the greenback and noticed an intra-day high of Rs.72.46 and a low of Rs.72.58, at the forex market.

But, it finally closed at Rs.72.52 opposite the American currency, that is recoding ag a rise of about just one paisa over its previous close. Yet, the Indian rupee had ended at Rs.72.53 against the US dollar yesterday.

Consequently, on the domestic equity market, the BSE Sensex has ended 641.72 points or 1.30 percent higher at 49,858.24, while the broader NSE Nifty surged 186.15 points or 1.28 percent to 14,744.00.

The dollar index that gauges the greenback's strength against a basket of six currencies, grew by 0.08 percent to 91.94.
Brent crude futures, the global oil benchmark, increased 1.33 percent to $ 64.12 per barrel.

Thus, the Foreign institutional investors remained net buyers in the capital market as they purchased shares worth Rs.1,258.47 crore on Thursday, according to exchange data reports.
