President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has appointed Most Ven. Dr. Gallelle Sumanasiri Thera as the Chancellor of Rajarata University of Sri Lanka. The appointment letter was formally handed over by Secretary to the President, Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake, at the Presidential Secretariat on February 14, as per the President's Media Division (PMD).

Ven. Dr. Gallelle Sumanasiri Thera is the Chief Incumbent of Harankahawa Molagoda Rajamaha Viharaya and is the Kandy District Secretary of the All-Ceylon Shasanarakshaka Bala Mandalaya. He was the former Vice-Chancellor of Homagama Pali and Buddhist University, and he made notable contributions to Buddhist education and administration.

The ceremony of appointment was witnessed by a number of high-ranking members of the Maha Sangha, including Ven. Denike Ananda Thera, Ven. Karagaswewa Vajira Thera, and Ven. Vitharandeniye Nanda Thera, as well as other monks and laymen. After the formalities, the Secretary to the President held talks with the Maha Sangha and other visitors.

Ven. Dr. Gallelle Sumanasiri Thera's joining is likely to further enhance the university's scholarly and spiritual culture, promoting higher education based on Buddhist principles.
