Viacom 18 Secures BCCI Media Rights For Indian and International Cricket Broadcast

According to sources, Viacom18 has won BCCI media rights for Rs 67.8 crore per match, outbidding Sony Pictures Networks India and Disney Star. The total value of the transaction is Rs 5966 crore. Today was the e-auction for bilateral cricket media rights.

The BCCI set a base price of Rs 20 crore per match for Package A, which includes TV rights for the Indian subcontinent, in its tender released on August 2. Package B, which includes global digital rights and TV rights for the rest of the world, had a base price of Rs 25 crore per match. The media rights tender was issued for 88 matches over a five-year period (2023-28). The overall base price worked out to Rs 3,960 crore at Rs 45 crore per match.

The BCCI has set a threshold of Rs 60 crore per match, or Rs 5,280 crore for the 88 matches, while lowering the base price. The BCCI reserves the right to cancel the tender process if the consolidated bids fall below Rs 60 crore per match.

For the 2018-23 media rights cycle, Disney paid Rs 6,138 crore.
