WhatsApp Trials Meta AI Chatbot in India and Beyond

Separator

WhatsappWhatsApp, under the umbrella of Meta, is conducting trials of its Meta AI chatbot, powered by a large language model, in India and other markets to enhance its artificial intelligence offerings. The initiative targets a substantial user base of over 500 million in India, the largest market for the messaging platform. Meta confirmed the recent commencement of testing in select markets, including the US, with plans to develop various AI-powered experiences.

Meta AI, introduced last September, is a versatile chatbot capable of generating lifelike images and responding to user inquiries within chats. Additionally, Meta announced the impending launch of Llama 3, its next-generation open-source large language model, bolstering its commitment to advancing AI technology.

Furthermore, Meta is preparing to establish an India-specific Elections Operations Centre, collaborating with experts to detect and address potential threats across its platforms—Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram. This initiative aims to combat the proliferation of AI-generated fake or manipulated content, underscoring Meta's dedication to ensuring digital integrity and security amidst evolving challenges.
