Yogi Adityanath Leads Yoga Day Celebrations in Lucknow
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Governor Anandiben Patel spearheaded the International Yoga Day celebrations at Raj Bhawan on Friday. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from state officials, including Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary Durga Shankar Mishra, among a diverse gathering of attendees.
Under this year’s theme, 'Yoga for Self and Society', the celebrations emphasized yoga's dual role in enhancing individual well-being and fostering community health. The event aims to extend yoga's reach to grassroots levels, particularly in rural areas, to encourage widespread practice.
International Yoga Day, observed annually on June 21, underscores yoga's profound benefits for overall health and well-being. Initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the concept of a dedicated global day for yoga was presented to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in 2014. The UNGA adopted a resolution in December 2014, officially designating June 21 as International Yoga Day.
Yoga, a practice rooted in India, integrates physical, mental, and spiritual disciplines. The term 'yoga' is derived from Sanskrit, meaning to unite, symbolizing the harmony between the body and consciousness. The United Nations recognizes yoga as an ancient tradition with substantial contributions to health and wellness.
