The Yokohama Rubber Company, located in Japan, has announced plans to expand its passenger car tyre manufacturing in India. Through Yokohama India, the business plans to invest 671 crore rupees ($80 million) in boosting its annual tyre production capacity in the Indian market.

Yokohama India, which has been in business since 2007, specialises in producing tyres optimised for Indian driving conditions. The increased capacity will be installed at the company's existing Visakhapatnam factory in India. The additional production facility, which will focus on 22-inch passenger car tyres, is expected to begin operations in the fourth quarter of 2024.

Yokohama's annual production capacity has increased significantly, rising from 700,000 tyres in 2014 to 1.53 million tyres in 2019 and 1.96 million tyres in 2021. Furthermore, the company's Bahadurgarh, Haryana, factory now has an annual capacity of 2.8 million tyres.

Yokohama manufactures off-road tyres in three locations: Tirunelveli (Tamil Nadu), Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), and Dahej (Gujarat).

The tyre manufacturer recently increased its retail presence in Tamil Nadu by opening its 51st outlet in Salem. This location provides as a full exhibition for Yokohama's product line, which includes passenger vehicle and SUV tyres. Furthermore, the brand's YIN dealership outlets provide a variety of tyre-related services, such as wheel alignment and wheel balancing.
