Later, Premji's company was expanded to include consumer goods with oil bases, such as soaps, shampoos, and baking fats.

By the late 1970s, the company had applied for a license to design, produce, and sell minicomputers. The business was then renamed Wipro Limited, which signaled a significant change in the company's course. Born into a middle-class family on 24 July 1945, Azim Premji took over his father’s company, Western India Vegetable Products Ltd, after his father’s sudden death and dropped out of his engineering studies at Stanford. Despite his young age, Premji showed resilience and vision. He expanded the company significantly, adding hydraulic cylinders, soaps, and lighting products. In 1977, the company was renamed Wipro and began its rise in the IT industry.
