| | SEPTEMBER 20228Former Chief Economic Adviser (CEA) Krishnamurthy Subramani an will be the Executive Director for India at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) from November onwards.The Appointments Committee of Cabinet (ACC), in an order issued on Thursday, said that Subramanian will have a three year tenure or until further orders, beginning November 1st.Subramanian, who is currently a Professor at the Indian School of Business, was the Chief Economic Adviser between 2018 and 2021. Subramanian's term will begin from November and will continue for a period of three years or until further orders, whichever is earlier, by curtailing the tenure of eminent economist Surjit S Bhalla as ED (India), IMF up to 31st October, 2022.Bhalla was appointed as the Executive Director for India on the board of the IMF in 2019. He succeeded former RBI deputy governor Subir Gokarn, who died in the US on 30th July after a brief illness."The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Dr. Krishnamurthy Subramanian, Professor (Finance), Indian School of Business and former Chief Economic Adviser to the post of Executive Director (India) at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), w.e.f 01.11.2022 for a period of three years or until further orders, whichever is earlier by curtailing the tenure of Dr. Surjit S. Bhalla as ED (India), IMF up to 31.10.2022", the order read. The order further mentioned that Subramanian will succeed Surjit Bhalla at IMF, whose tenure ends on October 31st. Subramanian holds an MBA and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in financial economics from University of Chicago Booth School of Business. His PhD was completed under the supervision of former RBI governor Raghuram Rajan. He is also an alumnus of the IIT, Kanpur where he studied electrical engineering, as well as Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta. Ex-CEA K.
