Below is an excerpt of Aradhana Dalmia’s exclusive interaction with CEO Insights magazine.
How would you describe your career path so far? What motivated you to pursue art and make a career out of it?
Hailing from a pioneer city in Art and Literature i.e., Calcutta, I was drawn to creativity from a young age. I went to Manchester School of Art, UK, and pursued my bachelor's in fine arts and history of arts. When I returned to India, I was actively practicing oil painting, and simultaneously, showcasing my works in different art galleries and hosting art workshops. Initially, I believed that becoming an artist meant either being a professor, artist, or gallerist, but I discovered the multitude of career opportunities within the industry. I realized the gap between artists and buyers and started commissioning artworks. At the same time, I was
also exploring different avenues where I provided art therapy classes and photo graphy workshops and participated in a social campaign such as the ‘Missing Girls’.
My journey truly began when I came across an opportunity to commission a large painting. Though I could not paint it myself, I brought together a team of talented artists and built them a studio to complete the project. That was when The Artemist was born. From there, I began connecting artists with clients, helping to bridge the gap between talent and opportunity while keeping budget and space in mind.
How would you define The Artemist as an organization and its current position in the market?
Our company is an art consulting firm that operates differently from galleries and traditional consultants. We do not maintain a stock of art pieces but instead source them from various artists, galleries, and consultants. Additionally, we have an inhouse team of talented artists, sculptors, designers, and mural painters who create bespoke pieces as per clients' needs. Our personalized approach involves a lot of collaboration with the clients, including presentations, reference images, and studying renders. This allows us to create art pieces that capture the desired look and feel as per the budget, space, and requirements. Also, our unique approach has enabled us to offer a wider range of options for our clients, making us stand out in the art fraternity. As a result, we are committed to providing a personalized and unique experience for each client.
What are the major projects that you have undertaken till now? How did you overcome the challenges associated with them and what did you learn from them?
Over the past 5 years, Artemist has undertaken 750 plus projects across the globe transforming spaces in India, the USA, Canada, Switzerland, the UK, and Singapore, among

Over the past 5 years, Artemist has undertaken 750 plus projects across the globe transforming spaces in India, the USA, Canada, Switzerland, the UK, and Singapore, among
others.
Some of our corporate projects in India include Century, D-Mart, Aditya Birla, and Rupa. Under residential, we have worked with renowned interior designers such as Sarah Sham, Kaushik Wadhwana, Kamal Periwal, Rupande Shah, and Pooja Bihani, to name a few.
One of the recent projects that I would like to highlight is the tapestry art project for a five star hotel in Baku, Azerbaijan. The project was challenging, as we were bidding against China for the order and the timelines were tight with a limited budget. We brought together our inhouse artists along with a team of highly skilled local artists to execute the project.
Despite the obstacles we faced, we were able to deliver the completed tapestry art on time and within budget. The project was an opportunity for our team to learn and grow together. At The Artemist, we are committed to delivering high quality work, even in the most challenging circumstances.
In light of your strong experience within the industry, what advice would you give to budding industry leaders?
Budding artists must treat their craft as a profession rather than a hobby by dedicating full time and effort to it. This includes approaching the right galleries to showcase their work locally, nationally and internationally. Regularity and consistency are critical to building a successful career as an artist, and it is important to give it the right amount of time and experience. By nurturing their art and treating it as a career, artists can establish themselves in the industry and achieve success.
