Over 250 Semiconductor Firms from 24 Countries to Join 'Semicon India 2024'
‘Semicon India 2024’ is set to take place in Greater Noida from September 11-13, bringing together more than 250 companies from 24 different countries. This significant event highlights India's expanding role in the semiconductor industry, covering every aspect of the supply chain from equipment makers to fabs.
According to Akash Tripathi, CEO of the Indian Semiconductor Mission (ISM), the event will offer a vital platform for major players in the semiconductor industry. "With ongoing semiconductor projects in India, there’s a crucial need for various ecosystem components. ‘Semicon India 2024’ will provide an excellent opportunity for business interactions and forming new partnerships", Tripathi stated.
India has introduced comprehensive policies to support all facets of the semiconductor industry, including not just fabs but also packaging, display wires, OSATs, and sensors. Significant investments include a Rs 22,000 crore project with Micron and a joint venture between Tata and Taiwan’s Powerchip in Dholera. Currently, there are five proposals with a combined investment of approximately Rs 1.52 lakh crore.
Ajit Manocha, President and CEO of SEMI, pointed out India’s distinct advantages in becoming a global semiconductor leader. "India’s strong design capabilities, extensive talent pool, and support from premier educational institutions make it well-positioned for success in the semiconductor field", Manocha said.
In addition, the US has announced a new partnership with India to explore opportunities within the semiconductor supply chain. This collaboration will involve a detailed assessment of India’s semiconductor ecosystem, regulatory framework, workforce, and infrastructure needs, paving the way for future joint ventures.
Recently, India also signed a semiconductor ecosystem partnership with Singapore during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit, further strengthening its position in the global semiconductor arena.
